Secondary 1 History Group Assignment(Chapter 2)

Evaluation of Evidence

The Evaluation of evidence, is to help root out biased evidence, and opinions, in order to get the most accurate picture of the past.
It is done by using the 3 Cs
Which are:
  • Credibility
  1. The historians will ask if the person who provided the evidence is trustworthy, or has a reason to lie or exaggerate.
  2. If the person breaches any of the above requirements, the evidence may be considered unreliable.

  • Consistency
  1. The historians will then ask whether the evidence contains statements that have similar meanings.

  • Corroboration
  1. Lastly, the historians look at other pieces if evidence.
  2. If they contradict each other, the evidence with the less similar evidence may be considered invalid

If the evidence passes the 3Cs, historians will believe that it is a fact.
